The message to Linux developers isn't clear. There isn't a recommended way to create a great application that works across all distributions. 

In the past things like HyperCard, QuickBasic, and even Visual Basic have made  it easier for assemblers to create applications. The bar for creating a Linux application is high if you want the application to work across distributions. Even simple things like developing for both desktop managers is a challenge.
