I recently got on a rant about telephone not integrating well with PC’s. For example if I have a phone number right on the screen there’s no way I can quickly place the call. Anyway I wrote a little application that sets the groundwork for this to actually work. It only works with Vonage at the current moment. If you have Vonage and could give it a try I would appreciate it:

This will enable callto: links in webpages. Unfortunately at present there are few if any Callto links to be found in webpages. So how do you test it? After installing you should be able to type the command “callto:617-555-1212” either into the address bar of any browser or into the start run dialog box. Once I get the initial beta working I may write a plugin for Microsoft Outlook and Internet explorer to add a toolbar button to automate the creation of these links.
